2. OCES vs DGFS – What’s the difference?
BARC recruits Scientific Officers through two parallel streams. Choose based on your career preference.
OCES (One‑year training)
• 1‑year residential training at BARC (Mumbai/Hyderabad)
• Stipend ₹74,000/month + ₹30,000 book allowance
• On completion: Scientific Officer "C" (Level‑10) in DAE
DGFS (Two‑year M.Tech + training)
• M.Tech at IIT Bombay or IIT Madras (CSE)
• Full tuition + ₹74,000/month stipend + ₹60,000/year contingency
• After M.Tech → 4‑month OCDF → SO/C
DGFS eligibility
You must first clear the OCES interview, then secure M.Tech admission at IIT‑B or IIT‑M in a CSE specialization.
3. Eligibility for Computer Science (CS‑26)
✅ Acceptable degrees
B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or CSE. Integrated M.Tech in CSE also valid. Minimum 60% or 6.0 CGPA. Only full‑time regular degrees accepted.
❌ Not eligible (even with GATE CS)

• MCA, M.Sc Computer Science, BS CS
• B.Sc CS, B.Sc Electronics
• Hybrid degrees (e.g., Computer Science & Systems Engineering)

4. Two Screening Modes (you can choose both)
BARC Online Exam (CBT)
Discipline‑specific (CS‑26) – 100 MCQs, 2 hours, +3/–1 marking. No aptitude/GK.
GATE Score
Valid GATE‑CS 2024/25/26. Highest score among the three years considered.
Pro tip
BARC recommends opting for both – cutoffs are set after CBT results, and using both maximises your chances.

- Discrete Mathematics: Propositional logic, sets, relations, functions, combinatorics, graph theory.
- Digital Logic: Boolean algebra, combinational & sequential circuits, number systems.
- Programming & Data Structures: C programming, arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, graphs.
- Algorithms: Analysis, sorting, searching, dynamic programming, greedy, graph algorithms.
- Theory of Computation: Regular languages, context‑free languages, Turing machines.
- Compiler Design: Lexical analysis, parsing, syntax‑directed translation.
- Operating Systems: Processes, threads, synchronization, memory management, file systems.
- Databases: ER model, SQL, normalization, transactions.
- Computer Networks: OSI/TCP‑IP, routing, transport layer, application layer.
- Computer Organization: Pipelining, memory hierarchy, I/O.
The syllabus is based on B.E./B.Tech level CSE curriculum. Questions test fundamentals and problem‑solving.
6. Interview & Final Selection
Shortlisting is based on GATE score and/or CBT score. The final selection is based only on interview performance (plus medical fitness). Screening scores are not used in the final merit.
Interview details
Held in Mumbai. Outstation candidates get AC‑III tier railway fare reimbursement.
Medical test
Pre‑employment medical examination in July 2026. Must be medically fit.
7. Stipend, Pay & Perks
