About BIS 

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS is responsible for creating and maintaining national standards, certifying products and management systems, hallmarking precious metals like gold and silver, and conducting laboratory testing to ensure quality across industries. Beyond its national responsibilities, BIS also represents India in international standardization bodies, helping influence global norms and ensuring Indian standards align with global best practices.


⇥Required Qualifications:

1. Engineering Disciplines:

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant field with at least 60% marks (or 50% for SC/ST).
  • Applicants should also have a valid GATE score from 2023, 2024, or 2025 in the appropriate paper.
2. Chemistry Discipline:
  • A Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry only) is required with minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST).
  • A valid GATE score (2023/2024/2025) in the Chemistry (CY) paper is also necessary.
    ⇥Age Criteria:
    • The maximum age limit for all applicants is 30 years as on May 23, 2025.
    • Upper age relaxation is applicable as follows:
      • SC/ST: 5 years
      • OBC: 3 years
      • PwBD (UR): 10 years
      • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
      • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
      • Departmental BIS employees: up to 50 years
    Additional relaxations are provided for Ex-Servicemen and as per government guidelines.
    ⇥Selection Process:
    1. Shortlisting Through GATE:
      • Applicants will be shortlisted for interview based on their valid GATE scores in 2023, 2024, or 2025.
      • In case of a tie in GATE scores, candidates with higher percentile will be preferred. If still tied, the older candidate will be ranked higher.
    2. Interview Round:
      • Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview.
      • Interview schedule will be shared via email and posted on the BIS website.
    3. Final Selection:
      • Merit list will be prepared using 85% weightage for GATE score and 15% for the interview.
      • In case of a tie in final marks, GATE score will be the tie-breaker; if still tied, the older candidate will be selected.
