A line-by-line comparison of the official GATE 2026 vs GATE 2027 syllabus for CSE and DA — so you know exactly what to update in your prep plan (spoiler: almost nothing).
Ever since IIT Madras released the GATE 2027 notification, one question has been appearing everywhere: has the syllabus changed?
Short answer: Yes, but only marginally.
After comparing the official GATE 2026 and GATE 2027 syllabus line by line, here's what we found:
Let's look at the changes one by one.
The biggest announcement this year is the introduction of Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new GATE paper.
If you've already started preparing for GATE CSE, you don't need to worry — the core subjects remain exactly the same.
| Core CSE Subject | Status in GATE 2027 |
|---|---|
| Engineering Mathematics | No change |
| Programming & Data Structures | No change |
| Algorithms | No change |
| Discrete Mathematics | No change |
| Database Management Systems | No change |
| Operating Systems | No change |
| Theory of Computation | No change |
| Compiler Design | No change |
If your preparation is already in progress, there is no need to change your study plan.
This is one of the few subjects where an official change has been made.
| Topic | GATE 2026 | GATE 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary Storage / Magnetic Disk | Included | Removed |
| All other topics | Included | No change |
If you've already covered Secondary Storage / Magnetic Disk, don't consider that effort wasted — it's a small topic and still useful for understanding the subject. Students starting now can safely focus on the officially prescribed syllabus.
At first glance, the wording in the new syllabus may look slightly different. However:
Computer Networks has seen a few minor removals. The following topics are no longer explicitly mentioned in the official syllabus:
| Topic | Status | Should you still study it? |
|---|---|---|
| ARP | Removed from official list | Still a fundamental concept — useful, but not a priority |
| ICMP | Removed from official list | Still a fundamental concept — useful, but not a priority |
| DHCP | Removed from official list | Not essential — can be skipped |
| SMTP | Removed from official list | No longer part of syllabus — skip |
| FTP | Removed from official list | No longer part of syllabus — skip |
| UDP | Removed from official list | Still a fundamental concept — useful, but not a priority |
For DA aspirants, there's hardly anything to discuss — the GATE 2027 DA syllabus is exactly the same as the GATE 2026 syllabus.
| Core DA Subject | Status in GATE 2027 |
|---|---|
| Probability & Statistics | No change |
| Linear Algebra | No change |
| Programming | No change |
| Machine Learning | No change |
| Artificial Intelligence | No change |
| Database Management | No change |
| Data Structures | No change |
If you're preparing for GATE DA, you can continue with your existing plan without making any adjustments.
Despite all the discussion surrounding the GATE 2027 notification, the actual syllabus changes are very limited.
For most CSE and DA aspirants, this means:
This analysis wasn't guesswork — every point above was cross-checked against the following official and primary sources:
