GATE 2027 Syllabus Changes (CSE & DA): Complete Official Analysis

Ever since IIT Madras released the GATE 2027 notification, one question has been appearing everywhere: has the syllabus changed?

Short answer: Yes, but only marginally.

After comparing the official GATE 2026 and GATE 2027 syllabus line by line, here's what we found:

The overall syllabus remains almost identical
There are only a few minor removals in the Computer Science syllabus
The Data Science syllabus has not changed at all

Let's look at the changes one by one.

1. A New Paper Has Been Introduced

The biggest announcement this year is the introduction of Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new GATE paper.

Students from Computer Science (CS), Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DA), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Electrical Engineering (EE) can now choose RA as their second paper
Many students are wondering whether they should opt for CS + RA or DA + RA
Although these combinations are officially allowed, they may not be the most suitable choice for everyone — the RA syllabus includes several topics from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

✅ YES — CS + RA or DA + RA can work for you

❌ NO — Stick with CS + DA (recommended for most students)

2. GATE CSE: Mostly the Same Syllabus

If you've already started preparing for GATE CSE, you don't need to worry — the core subjects remain exactly the same.

If you've already covered Secondary Storage / Magnetic Disk, don't consider that effort wasted — it's a small topic and still useful for understanding the subject. Students starting now can safely focus on the officially prescribed syllabus.

4. Digital Logic

At first glance, the wording in the new syllabus may look slightly different. However:

After comparing both versions carefully, these turn out to be only changes in presentation
Topics such as K-Maps and minimization techniques have simply been written more explicitly
They were already expected as part of the syllabus in previous years

So, from a preparation point of view, nothing has changed in Digital Logic.

5. Computer Networks

Computer Networks has seen a few minor removals. The following topics are no longer explicitly mentioned in the official syllabus:
