Who can apply?Eligibility, GATE 2027
Anyone in their 3rd year or higher (or already graduated) of a UGC/AICTE-approved Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce or Arts degree can sit GATE 2027. There's no age limit and no cap on attempts. This "10+2+3" rule opened the door to 3-year BSc, BCA, B.Com and BA graduates.
Branch ≠ PaperPaper choice flexibility
You may sit any of GATE's 30 papers, including CS (Computer Science & IT) and DA (Data Science & AI) — a Mechanical or Physics background is not disqualifying. Institutes only check this later, when they decide which qualifying degrees they accept.

India's premier science institute runs its flagship Computer Science M.Tech with almost no branch filtering.

Baseline Marks Bachelor's degree with ≥ 60% / 6.5 CGPA (GEN/EWS/OBC) or ≥ 55% / 6.0 CGPA (SC/ST/PwD).
Branch Rules Set per NIT. While some restrict to CS/IT/ECE, many (like NIT Warangal or Surathkal) map broader branches to CSE if the candidate possesses a valid GATE CS score.
MSc & MCA Fully eligible across almost all NITs for CSE, provided 60% aggregate is maintained across both UG and PG degrees.

GATE Eligibility (The 10+2+3 Rule)
A 3-year BSc, BCA, B.Com, or BA graduate (or 3rd-year student) can register for GATE and sit the CS or DA paper directly. You no longer need a 4-year degree just to write the exam.

MSc / MCA is a Core Qualifying Degree
An MSc in Computer Science, Math, Stats, or an MCA is explicitly listed as eligible for CSE M.Tech at IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, and IISc. It acts as the perfect bridge to fulfill the 4-year education equivalent.

A 3-year BSc/BCA with Math qualifies for NIMCET, feeding MCA seats at 11 top NITs (like Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal). Graduating with that NIT MCA re-opens every premium M.Tech CSE route.

For NITs / GFTIs
CCMT
One centralized counselling portal. You register once, list your preference order for 50+ institutes, and seats are automatically allotted round-by-round purely on GATE merit.
Independent IIITs
IIIT-H / IIIT-D / IIIT-B
Top-tier IIITs run their own application cycles entirely outside COAP/CCMT. They have separate portals, separate deadlines, and sometimes their own subject tests (like IIIT Hyderabad's PGEE).
